Ever since I started making Harry Potter-inspired craft tutorials, I’ve received loads of requests to make a DIY time-turner! For a while, I couldn’t wrap my mind around how to make one using materials that were easy to find and that would actually spin.
Eventually, I figured out that if I aimed to make a large hanging decoration rather than a tiny necklace pendant, I could use inexpensive wooden embroidery hoops! What resulted is one of my all-time favorite projects because it’s so different from anything I’ve seen in the realm of Harry Potter-inspired DIYs. And it actually spins (with a little bit of help)!
Watch this video now to learn how to make your own!
Supplies you’ll need to make this decoration:
-3 wooden embroidery hoops of varying sizes (mine are 8”, 6”, and 4”).
-spherical wooden “decorative fillers” or similar. You could also try to build an hourglass, but I went for the general shape instead.
-crochet hook (big enough to hold your twine, small enough to fit through the wooden ball)
-metallic gold spray paint
As always, I would love to see what you end up making using my tutorials (and how they fit into your decor)! Post photos of your projects on social media using #laurenfairweather. And if you loved this project, consider telling your family and friends about it! Feel free to use this tweet or write your own.
Also, if you adore Pinterest as much as I do, pin this graphic! That way, you can easily come back and make this project when you have free time.
