Hermione Granger is one of my all-time favorite literary heroines. So when I was putting together my Halloween costume, I decided to make a little S.P.E.W. badge to pin onto my Gryffindor robes. It even features a tiny bit of knitting since her S.P.E.W. duties included knitting hats and socks for the house elves she was trying to free (without their permission).
Watch this video tutorial to see how it’s done! You can also scroll down for a list of materials, the free knitting pattern, and some links to knitting and sewing tutorials if you need extra help with those steps.
Materials needed to make this project yourself:
-red and yellow felt
-red and yellow embroidery floss
-matching yellow yarn and knitting needles OR other fabric cut down to the same sort of arrow/upside down house shape
-safety pin with a flat back (I got mine in the jewelry section at Michael’s)
-regular sewing thread or glue
Follow the instructions in the video above to stitch up a super cute accessory for your Hermione Granger cosplay or Halloween costume! If you’d rather see it written down here is the knitting pattern for the top piece:

In case you’re new at knitting or hand sewing, here are some more detailed tutorials for all of the stitches I used while making this project. This is a perfect project to learn on because it’s tiny!

- Knit 2 together (Purl 2 together is the same idea, but purl wise)

If you end up making one of these yourself, definitely show me the finished project! Post a photo to #laurenfairweather on social media so I can see how it turned out.
