Luna Lovegood is one of my favorite characters in the Harry Potter series, so I wanted to design my own version of the quirky radish / dirigible plum earrings she wears. Today, I’ll show you how to make them yourself!
These would make a perfect addition to your Luna cosplay, but I like to wear them with any outfit that could use a subtly nerdy touch. Not everyone recognizes these as a Harry Potter reference, so I love incorporating them into my everyday wardrobe!
Also, if you don’t have pierced ears, you can vary the kind of earring you attach the felt radishes to! Just pick up some clip-on earring bases at your local craft or jewelry supply store instead of the earring wires I’m using.
Watch the video below to learn how to put these together.
To download the pattern PDF you’ll need to make these, click here. It’s free, but please consider posting a tweet or facebook post about the video if you like it!
Here’s what you’ll need to make these:
Materials needed for this project:
–Printed out pattern pdf.
-Red and green felt
-Sewing and embroidery needles
-Red and green thread
-Wooden chopstick or dowel
-Polyester fiberfill or other stuffing
-White and green embroidery floss
-Clipboard or other method of securing the radish while you braid
-Earring wire and a jump ring from the jewelry section at a craft store (if your ears aren’t pierced, you can use clip-on earrings instead!)
-Two pairs of pliers (I prefer small ones for jewelry making)
-Sewing pin (optional)
Here are some hand sewing tutorials for the stitches I used in this video, in case you are new to sewing and would like a more detailed step-by-step:
If you make a pair of these, I’d love if you would post a photo on social media using #laurenfairweather! That way, I can see how they came out. I might even share the photos with my audience!
Also, if you like Pinterest as much as I do, pin this graphic I designed! That way, you can remember to come back and make this project when you have free time.
