News Updates section break

Hello everyone! It’s been a little while. I’ve been crafting up a storm at home for the past few months, but am hoping to work on new music soon.

Matt and I just added three shows this winter and I’d love for you to come if you’re nearby! February 11 in Ithaca, NY, March 10 in Manhattan, KS, and March 17 in Alfred, NY! Check out the shows page for more details.

There are a few more in the works for the Spring and THREE big tours coming up this summer, so keep an ear out and make sure you’re on my mailing list!

I’m also working on a new layout for this website with my friend Kyle Barr, so if you see anything weird going on here, that’s probably it. Just a heads up!

It’s that time of year again! I’m ridiculously excited. I’ve already started listening to Christmas music. I’ve got a bunch of coupon codes for you guys to use whether you’ve been waiting for a deal to buy something from me for yourself or you need a gift for someone else.

20% off t-shirts and CDs in my merch store until December 16, 2011 with code: holiday11

30% off music downloads in my bandcamp store until December 26, 2011 with code: happyholidays

I also have owl plushies back in stock (with more to come… and maybe some new ones?) in my Etsy shop, Fairweather Friends! As you might know from trying to grab one of these for yourself, they go fast but I’m trying to keep up and get this store to be active again, especially during the holiday shopping season.

I also started a new craft blog to go along with the store, where I can talk about all things crafty and document my progress with starting a handmade business. Right now, there are entries about my craft room, awesome hand sewing tutorials, and a profile on Henry the owl plushie. Plus, it’s on Blogger, so you can follow it easily and keep up with my entries! Find it at FairweatherFriendsBlog.com

That’s all for now! I hope you’re all enjoying this festive time of year so far. Happy holidays!

This weekend, my new interview with Radio for Awesome will be airing! You can catch it 10am and 10pm BST Saturday and Sunday on radioforawesome.moonfruit.com! You can also follow @radioforawesome on twitter for a reminder when the episode airs.

Also, Wrockstock is having some troubles and as a result, they’ve lowered the price for a pass to name-your-own-price. If you’ve at all considered attending the absolutely brilliant wizard rock concert festival in the woods next weekend, now’s the time to make a split-second decision for a last-minute adventure. For more information, check the Wrockstock website for a note from Brian and register here.

Tour starts this Sunday and I’m super excited! Of course, there’s a good amount of last-minute running around, but that always happens. Hope to see you on the road! Dates are here.

While I was on tour this summer, I stopped by to visit my friend Amorae Daylett while I was in Dallas for a show. We’d talked for a while about having her direct and edit a music video for me, so I sent her my favorite song on my newest album, The Prince’s Tale, and she got to work on it. She rearranged her living room, set up a ton of really cool Harry Potter stuff on a shelf in the corner, and called in her friend Matthew Cowling to do the cinematography.

Filming with Amorae and Matt was a blast, and we talked about ideas for the narrative portion of the video. Unfortunately, being on tour didn’t leave me with enough time to be there for the filming of the narrative segments but I wish I could’ve been there to see those. Amorae sent me screenshots every day they worked with the actors, and I got more and more excited to see the finished product the closer it came to being finished.

For me, “It’s Real For Us” has always had a double meaning and I wanted the video to reflect the fandom side of the story. Harry Potter does something extraordinary for the people who really love it… it can comfort a child struggling to keep her sanity in a home with fighting parents. It can bring together teenagers who feel lost in a world of constant change and unite them against bullies. It can even inspire people to make their own world a better place through a real-life Dumbledore’s Army like The Harry Potter Alliance.

Here’s the video, and if you like it or you understand how it feels to have your life so touched by these books, pass it on. This is one of the coolest things I’ve been a part of over the past few years and I’d love for everyone to see it.

P.S. Amorae also posted a really cute video of outtakes and behind the scenes footage on her channel. Check it out!

I’m super excited to announce that I’ll be touring this fall with The Whomping Willows, Justin Finch-Fletchley, and Snidget! We’ve got a bunch of shows announced, with more on the way. There are also some awesome major shows on this tour including the family-friendly retreat in the woods, Wrockstock, and the enormous Quidditch World Cup!

Click here to check out the tour dates on the ‘Shows’ page!

As far as to be announced shows go, we’re looking for help in finding venues for the following dates and locations:

Thursday 11.3.11 | Birmingham, AL (We found a place in Nashville, TN instead for this date!)
Sunday 11.6.11 | Tampa, FL

If you know of an all-ages venue where we could play on either of those dates, email thewhompingwillows@gmail.com!

See you this fall!

I got into the beta for Pottermore.com and still haven’t gotten my welcome email, and it seems like everyone else is on the site while I’m not. So I wrote this! To download this song, click here. Chords and lyrics are available right here!

Anyone who loves Harry Potter has dreamed about what it would feel like to get a letter from an owl inviting them to leave the world they know and get on a train to Hogwarts. We know this will never actually happen, but the friends we’ve made and the memories we’ve shared with other Harry Potter fans make it feel just as real.

This brand new “It’s real for us” shirt, designed by me and printed with black ink on sapphire blue adult unisex t-shirts, is now available for preorder. This means that you can jump in early to reserve one in your size but will not receive this shirt until after I get them in the mail around the middle of September. If you buy this shirt as part of another order, I may send the other items first and this shirt as soon as it comes in.

To preorder the new shirt, (and check out all of the awesome stuff in my fancy new online merch store) click here!

When I placed the order for these shirts, I also reordered Muggle Friends and Post-Potter Depression (in green this time!) but am waiting to restock those in the store until I actually have them in my hands.
